My dream place to live is in a small village in the Alps. Right in the middle of a valley where the bottom of the mountains meet. I don't know whether it's because I am Austrian that I love it so much or what it is, but this place that we've moved to - my mums hometown- is even more beautiful than how I remember it as kid. I couldn't think of a better place to live! Here the air is crisp and the sky is always blue, and the Alps are all around like a blanket. It's nestled right in the middle and it couldn't be more perfect. Everyday I look out from my work at Schiechenspitze (2,667m) and oggle at its beauty. I cannot wait for summer so I can finally get up there and look down at my work!
Ramsau am Dachstein is quite a small village, and all of these photos are places that we can walk to from our house! It's such a breather from the hustling city of Auckland! We love the quietness and calm around here. Most days (if we're not working all day) we'll get out for a walk and it's so refreshing! I love living in a place where it snows!
Some things we'be noticed that are so different from Auckland is that firstly everyone works six day weeks, which is harder, but then everything shuts properly on the Sunday for a real rest day. So all grocery shopping has to be done on Saturday which we learned the hard way ;) Also here they drive on the right side which has taken some getting used to, and on the autobahn you an drive up to 130kmh which Jonny thinks is just the cats pyjamas and I'm more like no thanks, that's more chance of dying.
Oh! The other thing that we love is that every little village along the way has either a Catholic Church, or a Evangalisch church in it and they are always the most beautiful old buildings with quaint towers and bells! We don't have anything like it in NZ!
The food here has me in tears. No time for takeaways around here. They get right down to business making the most incredible dishes and most things are traditional! So you get the same kind of things at all the hutts! Most Sundays we'll go for a hike up some track that ends up at a hutt, and then eat our weight in food and sled down. We love the way life works over here! We love it so much more than spending Sunday afternoon at a mall or the movies. Ok maybe not the movies. That's hard to beat. But it's so refreshing being outside all the time and here it just blows my mind away how beautiful God made this Earth! And to think He just spoke it into being.
